about

Around 1996, the Revelators were Crypt Records recording artists with a new LP coming out in Germany. Back in Columbia, Missouri, however, nobody gave a shit. Nobody except Whitney Shroyer, who owned local record store Whizz! Records, and hosted a radio show on the community radio station KOPN called "The Rockin' Record Shop".

Lax supervision at the station meant that Whitney would do whatever the hell he wanted on his radio show, which usually meant spinning releases that the heads of Norton and Crypt Records would have approved of. He also had live bands perform in the studio sometimes. He invited the Revelators, since they were the only band in town worth a damn, and they also bought all of their records at his store and were his best customers.

It was near Whitney's birthday, so the band decided to sooprize Whitney with an all-Billy Childish set, learning an album's worth of material for this one-off performance, because Columbia was boring as hell and they didn't have anything better to do, anyway. By the late 90s Childish had churned out a mess of his best material, and the Revelators were at the top of their sloppy, depraved game, so it was a match made in heaven.

Performing live amidst piercing feedback while breaking shit, fucking up constantly and gleefully, arguing about which song was next on the set list, and violating many FCC regulations, this recording is a reminder that rock n' roll used to actually be fun, exciting, and WILD.

about

The Revelators Columbia, Missouri

Exploding from the middle of nowhere with no fans, no scene, and no reason to exist, the Revelators recorded one of the greatest punk/garage/roots/whatever you wanna call it/ROCK N' ROLL albums of all time with "We Told You Not To Cross Us" and then promptly fell off the face of the earth before the follow-up "Let a Poor Boy Ride" was even released. Both LPs are now regarded as lost classics. ... more
